Zelensky Visits France to Secure Support as Middle East Conflict Shifts Global Attention

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is traveling to France to strengthen diplomatic support for Ukraine as global attention shifts toward the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The visit comes at a time when the war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States is dominating international headlines, raising concerns in Kyiv that the ongoing war with Russia may receive less focus and fewer military resources from Western allies.

Concerns Over Military Support

One of Ukraine’s biggest concerns is the availability of advanced air defense systems. Zelensky recently warned that Ukraine is already facing a critical shortage of air defense missiles, and the situation could worsen as Middle Eastern countries increase their own demand for similar systems to defend against Iranian attacks.

According to the Ukrainian leader, several Gulf countries have used large quantities of PAC-3 missile interceptors in just a few days of Iranian strikes. He suggested that the number used in the region may exceed what Ukraine has received from the United States over several years of the war.

Although Zelensky did not provide detailed figures, the statement highlights Ukraine’s growing concern about competition for military resources.

Economic Pressure From Rising Oil Prices

The Middle East conflict has also triggered a sharp increase in global oil prices. For Russia, higher oil prices mean increased revenue that could help finance its military operations in Ukraine.

At the same time, Ukraine continues to struggle financially as the war places pressure on its economy and defense spending.

European Union leaders are still discussing a proposed financial package worth approximately €90 billion, which would partly allow Ukraine to purchase additional weapons and strengthen its defense capabilities. Ukrainian officials hope the funding agreement can be finalized by mid-April.

France Reaffirms Commitment to Ukraine

French officials have emphasized that the Middle East crisis will not reduce Europe’s commitment to supporting Ukraine. According to representatives from the French presidency, the visit by Zelensky is meant to reinforce the message that Ukraine remains a major security priority for Europe.

French leaders are expected to discuss further military cooperation and long-term security assistance with the Ukrainian president during the talks in Paris.

Ukraine Expands Diplomatic Outreach

Ukraine is also working to strengthen relationships with countries in the Middle East. Several Gulf nations maintain close political and economic ties with Russia, and Kyiv is attempting to build stronger partnerships with them.

As part of these efforts, Ukraine has reportedly offered its drone interception technology in exchange for air defense missile systems. Ukrainian experts and government representatives have recently visited multiple countries in the region to discuss possible defense cooperation.

A War Competing for Global Attention

With two major conflicts unfolding simultaneously, international attention and military resources are being stretched across different regions. Analysts say this could complicate Ukraine’s efforts to secure consistent military support from Western partners.

Despite the shifting geopolitical landscape, Ukrainian officials continue to emphasize that maintaining strong international backing remains essential for defending the country against Russian forces.
